Editorial Policy
Wondering what standard a recipe on this site is actually held to? Here's how everything on Theonlinetoday gets researched, written, tested and fixed when it's wrong.
What a recipe has to include
- Measured quantities for every ingredient, the equipment you'll actually need, and steps numbered in the order you follow them.
- Prep and cook times built around a realistic home kitchen, not a professional line moving at speed.
- Wherever a technique is easy to mess up — getting batter consistency right, hitting the correct oil temperature, managing fermentation — an explanation either sits right in the recipe or links out to a dedicated technique guide.
- Common mistakes, swaps for ingredients, and ways to dial spice up or down, included only where they genuinely help, never as padding.
Getting the region and history right
Treating Indian snacks and street food as one cuisine misses the point entirely, so this library doesn't. Each recipe's background section sticks to what's reasonably well documented or broadly agreed on among people who write about or study food professionally. If an origin is genuinely argued over, claimed by more than one region, or can't be pinned down exactly, that uncertainty gets stated outright rather than smoothed into a single confident line.
Nutrition and health claims stay out
You won't find calorie counts, macro breakdowns, or similar nutrition data here — that information hasn't been independently verified in a lab for these specific recipes, and presenting estimates as fact would be misleading. The same logic keeps specific medical or health benefits off the ingredient notes. A traditional or cultural belief about an ingredient might get a mention as exactly that, but it's never dressed up as medical guidance.
Food safety
Wherever raw meat, poultry, dairy, eggs or deep frying is involved, expect the relevant food-safety guidance built in — safe internal temperatures, safe handling, storage windows. Unsafe reuse of frying oil, such as repeatedly pushing it past its smoke point or storing it the wrong way, is never recommended.
Images
Photography on this site is either made for it directly or properly licensed; nothing is hot-linked from elsewhere. If a dish doesn't have its own photography yet, you'll see a designed placeholder rather than a stock photo standing in for it, so what's shown never misrepresents the actual finished dish.
No invented reviews or endorsements
There are no user reviews, star ratings, or quotes attributed to chefs or home cooks published on this site. Nothing here should read as an endorsement from a specific person unless that person and the circumstances are real and checkable.
How corrections work
If you believe a fact, a measurement, or a regional claim is wrong, the Corrections page is where to flag it. Every report gets checked against the original recipe and, where it applies, against outside sources before anything changes. When a disagreement about regional variation is genuine and well supported, the usual fix is adding context rather than erasing one version in favor of another.
